HP Sprout with a projector and 3D scanner, HP already releasing a new computer named Sprout with a built-in projector and 3D-scanner week ago, It is said to have three parts: a flat touch-enabled surface – similar to Pavilion Touchsmart series of desktop PCs, a large flat screen display, and an overhead assembly that packs in a 3D scanner and projector. The projector / 3D scanner is located at the top of the PC, right above the display. According to the report, there isn't much software manipulation involved in kickstarting the 3D scanning functionality. Additionally, the projector / 3D scanner is surrounded or flanked by a touch control interface. Hewlett-Packard Enterprise will be the business/enterprise arm (obviously), while HP Inc. will keep the consumer-oriented parts. Also, while Google's Chrome OS has been pegged as a supported OS, the first Sprout systems will only run Windows. but Sprout is expected to support Google's Chrome OS in the future.
The flat surface will serve as the users' work area. According to Domain-B, the Sprout got rid of the traditional keyboard input and was instead reengineered to project images on the flat surface, and users then can work from there. Digital Trends even foresees Sprout computers beneficial to governments as well.
Sound familiar? It almost sounds like Microsoft's original Surface or a few other projects highlighted by Microsoft Research. The device projects images up and down on the work surface, users can manipulate with your hands or with a stylus. As for the angle of the company, HP's computing system could mingle into a number of verticals such as retail or education.
With Sprout, HP will need to show that it’s committed to the idea with significant software investment and long-term plans to build on the product over time.
