Android L still doesn’t have an official name, but there is an official developer preview build of the OS that can be installed on the Nexus 5 and WiFi Nexus 7 (2013). This also means that as Android L readies itself for a consumer launch we'll find out more about whether it's Android 5, Android 4.5 and which dessert name it will have and indeed it's now looking very likely that it will be Android Lollipop, as Google recently celebrated its 16th birthday with a cake topped with lollipops, which is a pretty big clue. So expect Android Lollipop on your HTC One M8 and M7 around Christmas. Notifications on Android Lollipop are getting an overhaul, so only the more relevant information about your apps is being presented.

Performance isn't the only thing Google wants to improve with the L Release. The battery performance is also important and to make it better, Google introduced Project Volta. Project Volta is Google’s name for its efforts to bolster battery life in Android L. No modification to existing apps is needed, Android will keep the data separate and secure. Android L also unifies the fitness tracker experience into one app, Google Fit (hi, Apple HealthKit). Google Fit will track steps, your sleep and other health metrics.
As for a release date, others believe that it will more likely be launched in November 2014.
